Each type of scar caused by any cause has its way to handle it. Big or small scars are a great example of the miraculous recovery of our skin when we are injured. We suggest ways to work on this process to make sure that scars are minimized, and they look as healthy as possible. There are various ways to minimize scars, or at least accelerate the lightening process and significantly reduce their appearance. Here are some scar treatment and prevention methods you can try at home:

How to Prevent Scars

Scars?

Scarring is a result of the process of regenerating damaged skin. It includes many other factors and processes, from genetic influences to health problems, diet, and lifestyle habits such as smoking, sun exposure, and heavy alcohol consumption. Unhealthy habits will damage the skin from within and affect their ability to heal.

Depending on the depth of the wound, the shape of the scar will vary. They may be flat or raised; may be red, tan, or dark; circle, straight, dashed, or diagonal. Some scars will be hard to see, and others will be very prominent, maybe even shaped like wheel marks.

What scars will look like is difficult to predict because the wound, from a minor scratch to surgery, will leave scars of various sizes and shapes. The following article is mainly about what you should do to help the wound heal quickly, at the most basic level, to be applied in many different cases. The way you take care of your skin during and after the healing process will significantly affect the reduction of the scar as well as whether the area can be smooth and look healthy.

The healing process is different for everyone – some people heal faster and easier than others. However, whether the skin heals effectively or not depends on how you care for the skin. Follow these steps when you are injured:

Wash the wound gently. Any irritant – including hot water, soap, or dry soap – can make the wound worse.

  • If the wound is dirty or a small object like stone, broken glass, you should remove them carefully as soon as possible. If the purpose is left in the wound for too long, the risk of infection will be higher, leading to a more severe injury.
  • Cracks in the preparation of ingredients will be susceptible to infection, so immediate wound cleaning is essential.
  • Using antibacterial ointments does not help treat scars unless your wound has been infected with signs such as swelling, redness. Many people think that using antibacterial drugs regularly will make resistant bacteria grow stronger. These medications will also increase the risk of infection. Please consult with your doctor before taking any medicine to avoid adversely affecting your wound.
  • Cover the wound and keep it always moist. Applying a little vaseline wound will be beneficial for moisturizing.
  • After the wound has healed, you should continue to care for that area. Besides gentle care, it is also necessary to protect the skin from the sun. Because the sun only needs a short period, it can reduce the ability of your skin to recover.
  • According to some studies, medicines containing quercetin or onion extract may help support wound healing.
  • If your skin has healed, apply a thin layer of moisturizer or moisturizer that contains antioxidants and skin-replenishing ingredients to help your skin balance moisture.

For some keloids, over-the-counter scars have also been shown to work well if used regularly and continuously for at least 1-2 months or longer.

Preventing scars

Practice proper wound care

Remember that while there are treatment options available, the most reliable way to minimize scars is to avoid them in the first place. Take appropriate care of fresh wounds to restore the skin and stop scarring. This includes keeping your cut, scrape, surgical incision or injury clean and moist, as well as covering the skin with dressings and replacing them with clean ones regularly.

When do you need to see a doctor for help reducing scars?

There are some cases where you should not handle your wounds and scars at home, but rather see your doctor for appropriate treatment. You should seek medical attention immediately:

  • The injury is intense.
  • Some objects are or are likely to rust trapped in the wound.
  • People or animals bite wounds.
  • An infected wound, swelling, redness, or feeling is hot to the touch.
  • The wound is leaking.

After the wound has healed but is still protruding, rough, rough, or oddly shaped, doctors will have many methods to improve the appearance of this scarred skin. The processes of laser treatment to scar repair surgery have many advantages and disadvantages. You should consult your doctor for a safe and appropriate reduction of scars.

Things to keep in mind during the scar reduction process

To minimize the scar when the skin is recovering, you should note:

  • Do not apply special oils or creams to the wound. Using a thin layer of vaseline will be more beneficial to the skin in the early days of recovery.
  • Do not soak the wound in water as they will make the skin weaker.
  • Do not rub as it may cause more small wounds and hinder skin regeneration.
  • Always wear sunscreen as the sun can damage the wound more. Once your wound heals, the American Academy of Dermatology advisedapplying sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higherto the injured area regularly. Guarding the skin against the sun’s harsh rays can reduce discoloration and help the scarring to fade at a faster rate.

Avoid:

Using dry cleaners, scented products, and products that contain any amount of peppermint, peppermint, citrus fruit, eucalyptus, camphor, or other easily extracted plant extracts irritation. All of these products have the potential to increase infections and hinder skin recovery.

It is difficult to do it again, but you should try: do not pry or remove the scabs on the wound. Let the scrape peel off on its own, or your injury will get worse. Scabs formed to protect the young skin are being regenerated underneath. So, the longer you leave the scab protected, the smaller the scars will be.

The methods of care and attention to minimize scars above are very basic and can be applied to many cases. However, in other cases, wounds and scars require more specialized care and treatment. See your doctor for the best support advice.
