How to Get Rid Of Old Scars – Home Remedies?
Scars may take a toll on a person’s physical and mental well-being, or if they are on a noticeable area such as the face.
Some home remedies would not be able to erase a scar. Because of the low risk of side effects, however, they can be an option to consider for mild to moderate improvement.
Most people who are struggling with the effects of a scar might wish to talk with a qualified dermatologist or plastic surgeon about aggressive options. These ways include lasers, surgery, steroids, or other treatments.
Different types of scars
There are quite different types of scars, each with defining characteristics.
Atrophic scars
The loss of tissue characterizes atrophic scars. They appear depressed, flat, or serrated against the upper layer of the skin. Atrophic scars have darker skin pigmentation than other areas of your skin. Some examples of atrophic scars include acne scars and chickenpox scars.
Hypertrophic scars
They are characterized by excess tissue that forms over the skin as it heals. Unlike keloid scars, it does not grow outside the injured area. Hypertrophic scars are quite commonly darker than other skin in the area.
Keloid Scars
Keloid scars are the result of energetic healing and overproduction of tissue. They are characterized by a thick, raised, puffy appearance. They are quite darker than the surrounding skin. Unlike a hypertrophic scar, keloid scars could grow beyond the injured area.
Contracture scars
They result from large areas of skin being lost or damaged from burns. Also, they are characterized by tight, shiny skin that could restrict movement.
Natural remedies
These long-term scars may not be as effective as surgical intervention, but they can make scars lighter.

It is a super cheap natural scar treatment. Cucumber provides nutrients and water to the scarred skin while helping to fade scars. It helps to soften the skin and rarely causes skin irritation.
To make cucumber cream, peel, and separate cucumber seeds, then grind it with some mint leaves. Separate the egg whites and add to the mixture. Finally, apply the cream on the scarred skin and leave to dry for 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water. You can use cucumber cream daily if necessary.

Medical methods
In addition to the above home remedies for scars, there are many different methods on the market to get rid of old scars. Here are some ways you can use:
Chemical peel
Biological skin-changing technology is a chemical method that uses cosmetic ingredients to strip away dead skin cells to brighten the skin and get rid of old scars. This method also removes dark pigmentation marks (such as melasma, freckles, etc.) and brightens the skin. Many beauty centers offer a variety of technologies depending on the type of scar you want to treat.
Laser treatment
This method is used for stubborn scars, challenging to treat. Laser scar treatment is based on the mechanism of using light/wavelength to consume scar tissue, helping to stimulate the proliferation of collagen and elastin for scarred skin. Depending on the scar, different laser therapy is used. For example, yellow lasers are used for keloid scars or hypertrophic scars.
Among all cosmetic procedures, laser therapy is the most effective at removing all scars and brightening the skin.
Exfoliating Dermabrasion
This method uses a brush, a stone ring, to remove the top layers of the scar, thereby stimulating skin growth and helping to fade scars.
Injection steroids to treat keloid scars
The doctor will inject steroids (hydrocortisone) directly into the skin around the scar. The success rate of this method is high but will discolor skin in people with darker skin.
Inject collagen to treat concave scars
This method uses collagen, a natural protein, injected into the skin to help heal sunken scars.
Silicone sheets and gel
Applying ointment gel to the skin to help heal a scar.
Of most of the home remedies for scars, silicone can have the most evidence that it works.
Silicone sheeting is a proven scar treatment over the years, according to a study.
A review states that silicone sheeting promotes the appearance of hypertrophic scars.
Another study found which a silicone gel was as useful as silicone sheeting in diminishing hypertrophic and keloid scars.
Topical silicone gel provided a significant improvement in keloid and hypertrophic scars.
Silicone scar treatment products are often available in many stores without a prescription. Doctors might also prescribe this medication after surgery or to aid in scar formation after an injury.
Silicone has a low risk of side effects and is regularly straightforward and painless to use.
Change your habit
Diet will also affect the growth of scars and help to heal. In particular, vitamin E is essential for skin healing. This substance is often used in topical form. However, vitamin E can also be included in the diet. In particular, you should use foods rich in vitamin E, including:
- Nuts
- Leafy green vegetables like spinach, kale, etc.
- Wheat products.
- Vitamin E speeds up the recovery of the skin and reduces the risk of scar formation. Once the scars have existed, vitamin E also helps to fade and soften the scar.
- In addition to vitamin E, vitamin C also has many significant effects on scar treatment. Oranges, grapefruits, or other acidic foods all contain vitamin C. Also, vitamin C helps keep collagen and exfoliants when applied to the skin directly. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that is essential for health and revitalizing the skin.
